Gramophone Prize Winner

A competition run by top, classical music publication Gramophone, offered an all expenses paid weekend for two in Sheffield including tickets to attend Trevor Pinnock’s birthday celebration concert at Sheffield City Hall and the VIP reception which followed.

The competition attracted hundreds of entries from across the UK and lucky winner Marion Attree of Rye in East Sussex was thrilled to make the trip to Sheffield. Marion’s prize also included first class train tickets courtesy of Midland Mainline and a two-night stay at the city’s highly prestigious Holiday Inn Royal Victoria, with spa treatments and dinner. A life-long fan of Trevor Pinnock, Marion commented, “I cannot believe I’ve won such a fabulous prize, to be invited to share this special celebration is a tremendous privilege. Avie Records, who organised the competition even arranged for me to meet Trevor Pinnock in person, which was certainly the highlight of my visit.”

Inga Uhrenbacher of Sheffield Tourism was delighted with the response to the competition. “The Trevor Pinnock EBE project has seen Sheffield talked about as a cultural destination nationally and internationally - even in the New York Times,” she comments, “The city has recognised the importance of this venture and attracted support and co-operation from a large number of corporate sponsors including the Holiday Inn Royal Victoria, Midland Mainline, Sheffield City Hall and from local organisations such as Sheffield First and Hospitality Sheffield."
