In educational initiatives Pinnock continues his work with the Royal Academy of Music, London, with staged performances of Haydn’s ‘L’Infedelta delusa’ and will undertake his first session as guest artist at the University Mozarteum Salzburg.
The European Brandenburg Ensemble (EBE) is an international formation of two dozen specialist musicians from different backgrounds and of different generations. Trevor Pinnock drew the group together for the sole purpose of celebrating his 60th birthday. With them he chose to revisit Bach’s Brandenburg Concertos which he first recorded with The English Concert nearly a quarter of a century ago. The Ensemble first came together in the summer of 2006 for a week long residency at the University of Sheffield, and that December they met again for performances throughout the North of England and to record the concertos in Sheffield’s City Hall Ballroom.
During 2007 the EBE toured Europe and the Far East, performing to packed houses and attracting critical acclaim. In November 2007 the 60th birthday celebrations climaxed with a final performance of the concertos in London’s Cadogan Hall and the launch of the Brandenburg Concertos recording on Avie Records.
The recording won the Baroque Instrumental Gramophone Award 2008.
The ensemble will reconvene in 2011 for performances of Bach’s St John Passion.
